North County Fire Station 101 in Sun City West is extremely busy, but firefighters went on a call recently that wasn't quite an emergency. "We usually see people on their worst day and to have an opportunity to go out and just spend time with somebody and provide something for them, to put a smile on their face, it was a nice change of pace," said Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Capt. Andrew Skinner. "It was really good for us."
A few weeks ago, firefighters got a call from some caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care. They said they had a client, a great grandmother, who hadn't been out of bed in a year. All she wanted was to sit up and get out of the house for just a few minutes.
Caregiver Karen Krepich remembers the firefighters saying, "Yes, right away," agreeing to come over to the house, lift her out of bed and onto a stretcher, then wheel her outside.
