A Phoenix firefighter was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a house on Tuesday afternoon. It happened near 12th Street and Union Hills Drive. Firefighters said they saw heavy smoke coming from the home when they got there. The house suffered severe damage but fire crews prevented the flames from spreading to other homes. The firefighter who was hospitalized has an injury that isn't considered life-threatening, crews said. It's unclear what specifically the injury was or how long the firefighter will be in the hospital. The person who was in the home will have to stay somewhere. An investigation is underway into what started the fire.
