Crews with the Rural Metro Fire Department, Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Southern Arizona Search and Rescue recovered a hiker near Tanque Verde Falls early Thursday evening. The woman, who complained of an injured leg, refused medical transport and a family member took her to the hospital.
Rural Metro Fire Department Battalion Chief John Walka said the call came in at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday evening to rescue a 37-year-old woman from a trail. The woman said she injured her leg and needed help getting back to the road.
Crews arrived to the trailhead 10 minutes later and hiked 1 mile in to rescue the woman, Walka said. The whole ordeal lasted about three hours, Walka said, because crews had to hike the woman out on a rescue stretcher through rough terrain.
The rescue concluded at around 7:30 p.m.
