Red Cross volunteers respond to displaced residents of three-alarm apartment fire in Sierra Vista

The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross dispatched a team of volunteers to help the residents affected by a three-alarm fire at Mountain View apartments on 77 East El Camino Real in Sierra Vista at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The fire actively burned when around 30 firefighters from the Sierra Vista Fire Department, Fry Fire District, Fort Huachuca Fire and Whetstone Fire all responded to the scene. Officials say the fire originated in building seven and eight units were damaged. Officials say 42 residents have been impacted and range from infants to elders. The extensive smoke damage resulted in a total of 15 cases opened and those at the scene that need lodging will be placed at local hotels. No injuries were reported. Fire officials say this is one of the larger impacts by a fire they have seen in Sierra Vista.
