'Mangum Fire' grows to 19,806 acres in Kaibab National Forest

Officials are battling a wildfire in Kaibab National Forest nine miles southwest of Jacob Lake at Mangum Springs. The "Mangum Fire" has grown to 19,806 acres as of Sunday after it sparked Monday, June 08. The fire is currently 2 percent contained and what caused the fire is currently under investigation. As strong winds and extreme heat continue, the fire is being pushed more toward Jacob Lake as the fire crossed highway 89A and continued to move northeast. Fire crews are implementing a plan to use burn outs and other tactics to advance barriers along with a full suppression strategy, and using tactics that reduce impact.
