A fire in northern Arizona that prompted officials to temporarily close a portion of the Grand Canyon National Park resulted in an evacuation order on Wednesday. Residents along the House Rock Road area north of Highway 89A were evacuated at 4 p.m. by authorities, according to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. At 3 p.m., residents had been placed in a “GO” stage by authorities after the blaze had reached trigger points along the House Rock Road area that would be needed for an evacuation. The blaze had consumed 56,780 acres and was 3% contained by Wednesday night. On Tuesday, the fire had burned 29,689 acres and was 3% contained. The Mangum Fire burning in the Kaibab National Forest has forced the closure of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park until further notice. The wildfire had not burned within the park, but smoke was visible from both the North and South rims.
