VIDEO: Arizona State Forestry says they are still fighting the Aquila Fire that began on Tuesday and forced residents from their homes. State Forestry officials say the fire started around 2:30 p.m. near 27th Avenue and the Carefree Highway. Crews say the flames are burning through wash and heavy vegetation, and at least three structures have been destroyed.
Officials say the fire is being fueled by windy conditions in the area, is approximately 893 acres in size. Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Phoenix Fire Department officials said they had fully contained the blaze and deemed it "under control." However, Arizona State Forestry said Wednesday morning that it was just 5% contained.
At the peak Tuesday afternoon, Arizona State Forestry said more than 200 homes were evacuated.
