VIDEO: It was a scary call today for firefighters in west Phoenix while battling flames at a home. Crews were called to a house on Vernon Avenue, near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road this morning for reports of heavy smoke. When they arrived they found flames shooting from the roof of the single-story home. They quickly worked to get it under control but a strong wind fanned the flames. That forced them outside and into a defensive strategy. A Mayday was called due to one firefighter being unaccounted for, but was quickly located outside and unharmed. A family of four was displaced and is working with the Phoenix Fire Crisis Response to find somewhere to seek shelter.
