Part of State Route 87 was closed Saturday due to a median fire in Rio Verde, according to Tonto National Forest officials. A tweet from the Tonto National Forest said forest service firefighters were battling a 5-acre blaze near the mile marker 215 on the SR-87, just south of Sunflower. The fire forced the closure of the right southbound lane of SR-87. It was not clear when the lane would reopen. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday afternoon.
