VIDEO: More than two dozen nursing home residents, many in wheelchairs, were evacuated for a short time when a fire broke out Thursday morning at their Phoenix facility. Flames erupted on the west side of the single-story nursing home near 27th Street and Bell Road. Fire crews fought the flames and kept them from spreading while helping the 27 residents get to safety, Capt. Scott Douglas, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman, said in an email. Three units suffered fire damage, and six residents were temporarily displaced, according to fire officials. A crisis team assisted residents in contacting their families and worked with the home for any further needs.
