A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson at Victory Worship Center in Tucson, according to Pima County sheriff's officials.
Deputies responded to a report of a burglary about 7:30 a.m. Monday at the church, on Ruthrauff Road just east of Interstate 10, and found a glass door leading into the church shattered, a Pima County sheriff's news release stated.
The suspect, 44-year-old Daniel Peterson, was found inside the church and taken into custody. Deputies found damage to furniture, carpeting and equipment in an audio visual room valued at about $9,000. Some of the damage was caused by fire, department spokesman Deputy James T. Allerton said in an email.
Bias is not considered an element of this offense, according to sheriff's officials.
Peterson was arrested on suspicion of felony offenses of arson of a structure, criminal damage, aggravated criminal damage of a place of worship and burglary, according to the news release. He was booked into a Pima County jail.
