PHOTO: On Wednesday, Jan. 27, personnel with the Green Valley Fire Department responded to the report of a 15-year-old male resident of Sahuarita who fell more than 30 feet into Madera Canyon while hiking during the afternoon. Fire crews arrived shortly after 4 p.m. and began a hasty team rescue, making their way to the patient who appeared to have suffered serious head trauma as a result of the fall. Firefighters quickly stabilized the patient and carried him out of the area to an ambulance that then transported the young man to a waiting helicopter. The patient was flown to University Medical Center’s main campus for treatment. The crew had the young man off the mountain at approximately 5:10 p.m. and made the quick transfer to get him to the aircraft for the flight.
