At least 12 structures have been destroyed in the Klamathon Fire, Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey says.
The 8,000-acre blaze is burning on both the east and west sides of Interstate 5, he said.
"This is a monumental, multi-agency effort especially on the fire side ," Lopey said.
The person who died during the fire was found inside a building and investigators are trying to determine the manner of death, the sheriff said.
Firefighters and law enforcement have their hands full in trying to keep residents safe, he said.
About 400 people have been evacuated from the fire zone and officers are patrolling to make no one is breaking into unoccupied homes. Authorities are confirming one person has died in the Klamathon Fire.
The death is being confirmed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office.
