Fire season formally started on Monday, May 14 which means all burning permits in the city of Redding have been suspended. Redding Fire Chief Gerry Gray issued the suspensions today after with an anticipated increase of fire activity. Chief Gray said this enables more resources to prevent and contain wildland fires throughout the county, not just Redding. With that going into effect, all mitigation burning permits are suspended until the end of fire season which is not until October. "We strongly encourage all of our residents to clear all of their combustible vegetation and all off the combustible materials from around their home. As history has proven, time and time again, including the Redding area, these fires travel very fast and if you allow for a full path, it will eventually reach your home," said Chief Gray.
