Firefighters battled a trash and mulch fire for the better part of the day on Thursday. The fire engulfed a trash pile in a recycling center in Saticoy. It was sparked at around noon. Large plumes of black smoke billowed into the sky and over 50 firefighters from Ventura City and Ventura County Fire Departments responded. For hours, flames and smoke poured out of the 25-foot high by 300-foot wide trash pile. At around 5:25 p.m., crews were able to get a hold of the blaze. Flames were extinguished by fire trucks dumping thousands of gallons of water from the air. Captain Stan Ziegler, Public Information Officer for the Ventura County Fire Department said crews would remain on scene for a few hours into the night to extinguish hot spots. No one was injured by the fire and the cause is under investigation.
