The Redding Fire Department was dispatched to five separate fires in Shasta County on Monday that the department is now investigating as potential arson cases. At around 3:32 p.m., firefighters were first dispatched to the scene of a vegetation fire on Loma Vista Monday afternoon. While responding to the vegetation fire, authorities were then dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Hope Baptist Church on Churn Creek Road. When firefighters arrived at the church, they found two small fires, one of which was actively burning on the exterior wall of one of the church buildings. One of the two fires had burned itself out and only caused minor damage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the active fire before it spread. During that same time, firefighters were also dispatched to two additional fires, one involving a burning flag at a home on El Portal Drive and another involving burning debris at the intersection of Ricardo Avenue and Estate Street.
