Kings County Firefighter passes away after battling lung cancer

A Kings County firefighter, who spent more than a year battling lung cancer, has passed away. The Kings County Fire Department shared Saturday night that 30-year-old Keith Hernandez died early this morning at Stanford Medical Center from Rhabdomyosarcoma. He had been with the Kings County Fire Department for five years, but had also been a firefighters with the Cal Fire Sonoma Lake Napa Unit and Fresno County Fire. Hernandez began his career as an Explorer with the Clovis Fire Department. He was born in Fresno, CA on June 13, 1988. He attended Clovis East High School and graduated in 2006. He told FOX26 News last January that he learned about his lung cancer diagnosis after he had a nagging cough that wouldn't go away. His wife is a nurse and made him see a doctor.
