A person died outside of a home that went up in flames in Potrero on Monday, firefighters said. When firefighters arrived at the fully engulfed home on Coyote Holler Road near Round Potrero Road before 6:45 a.m., a person was lying unconscious in the lawn, Cal Fire San Diego said. Cal Fire Battalion Chief Preston Fouts said the victim was dragged out of the home by neighbors who were first on the scene. “It sounded like someone may have been driving off to work, otherwise other neighbors had also saw the fires from their residence,” Fouts told NBC 7. “Being in a rural area, people do tend to watch out for one another.” Medics took over CPR efforts from neighbors but were unable to save the man. The victim was pronounced dead at around 7 a.m., Fouts said. Fouts said the victim suffered burn injuries. Cal Fire said there were no immediate signs of foul play in the home, but the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Bomb/Arson Unit is still investigating the fire with help from the ATF and Cal Fire.
