California sustained more damage from wildfires than any other state last year. According to an annual report from the National Interagency Coordination Center, wildfires burned more than 1.8 million acres in 2018. A spokesperson for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection told NBC that's the worst in recorded history for the state. California is still recovering from a series of devastating wildfires that started last year, including the Camp Fire. The massive blaze left dozens of people dead and destroyed thousands of structures. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has pledged to invest millions of dollars to help the state better prepare for, respond to and recover from wildfires. That's in addition to a $200 million plan lawmakers approved last year to bolster the state's wildfire prevention efforts.
