Vallejo Fire Department crews contained a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning that injured two people, one of whom needed to be rescued, according to fire officials. The blaze was first reported at 1:29 a.m. at a duplex in the 400 block of Sonoma Avenue, which is also known as state Highway 29, Vallejo firefighter/engineer Danny Gutierrez said. When fire crews arrived on the scene, they noticed fire coming from a lower-area garage and a woman pounding on the garage asking for help, according to Gutierrez. Fire crews were able to cut the garage door and rescue the woman and extinguished the fire around 2:15 a.m. The woman was transported to a hospital with at least first-degree burns and a man was transported for an unrelated medical emergency. Gutierrez said residents were displaced but an exact number wasn't immediately available. The cause is under investigation.
