Stockton’s top fire official is staying put. Fire Chief Erik Newman was not selected for the top post within the San Francisco Fire Department this week. Newman was one of three candidates considered by San Francisco Mayor London Breed to replace Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, who announced her retirement in October after more than 15 years in the post. Deputy Chief of Administration Jeanine Nicholson was named to succeed Hayes-White on Wednesday. Hayes-White was the first woman to lead the SFFD, and its longest serving chief.
