Firefighters in Ventura County were working against a fast-moving brush fire that sparked at the top of South Mountain just south of Santa Paula. The fire broke out at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday night and 7,500 people were under mandatory evacuation orders. The Maria Fire has grown to 8,060 acres and is 0% contained. Moderate winds from the east are pushing the fire west. At least one structure was captured by SkyFOX burning and many more were threatened. Crews were in place for structure protection as fire helicopters made continuous water drops on the flames. About 400 firefighters were battling the Maria Fire from the ground and the air. Additional crews were requested, which includes two strike teams from the Los Angeles Fire Department comprised of five engines and a battalion chief each.
