The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department Board of Directors has appointed Ray Iverson as the department's new chief effective next month.
The board, consisting of councilmembers from the cities of San Mateo, Belmont, and Foster City served by the department, decided to give the position to Iverson following the retirement of Chief John Healy. Iverson will assume the position on Dec. 27.
"Chief Iverson is the right person for the job, he's well positioned to lead our organization well into the future. I love his commitment to his team, and his skills as a leader to help everyone improve in their future," said board chair and San Mateo City Councilman Joe Goethals.
Iverson's past experience includes being assistant chief/fire marshal for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, fire marshal for the Benicia Fire Department, and a fire inspector with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
