Firefighters put out a house fire and reunited the displaced family with its puppy in Oildale on Tuesday night. The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. on the 2000 block of Esther Drive, according to Eng. Andrew Freeborn, public information officer for the Kern County Fire Department. Neighbors saw smoke coming from the home's garage and called 911, Freeborn said. When firefighters arrived they found the home's garage engulfed by flames. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread too far into the home's living areas, Freeborn said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported, but the residents inside the home will be displaced for now, Freeborn said. As firefighters circled the home to ensure the fire was out, they found the family's "scared" puppy hiding in the backyard and reunited it with the family, Freeborn said.
