East Contra Costa Fire Protection District board this week approved an agreement with a local developer that will give it $11 million to pay for a new fire station and services if the city’s western boundary lines are extended to build homes.
The ECCFPD Board on Wednesday unanimously approved the memorandum of understanding with GBN Partners LLC, developer of the proposed Vineyards at Deer Creek, to mitigate anticipated impacts on fire and emergency services.
A previous proposed MOU with GBN and endorsement of Measure L, which seeks to move the city’s boundary lines to accommodate new development, failed to get the board’s approval in late August.
“This (revised) MOU will provide the mitigations the district needs if Measure 11 is approved,” Chief Brian Helmick told the board.
The fire chief noted that the district struggles with two fundamental challenges — providing adequate services for existing residents and being responsible as it addresses new growth.
