U.S. Forest Service crews started to get a handle on a wildfire that broke out Sunday in the San Jacinto Mountains, southeast of Hemet and southwest of Idyllwild, reaching 15 percent containment by Monday morning.
Overnight, the number of scorched acres stayed at 163.
The Bautista fire was reported around 5:30 p.m. in a remote area near the Bautista Conservation Camp. By 9:51 p.m. Sunday, the fire was measured at 163 acres with no containment.
Bautista Canyon Road was closed because of the fire, said the Forest Service, which was being assisted by the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. There were no immediate reports of structures being threatened or damaged; and no evacuations had been ordered.
