Firefighters got help from the skies Wednesday night as a half-inch of rain poured over the Walker Fire burn area in Plumas County.
Though the fire is almost contained, there are still hazards left over from the blaze such as weakened trees, bad road conditions and rolling objects, said a press release issued Thursday by the U.S. Forest Service. Due to these hazards, a closure is still in effect in the area of the fire.
According to the release, firefighters have been working on repairing the land surrounding much of the fire that has been damaged by both fire and line work to contain the fire.
Crews are working on clearing equipment and around 83 miles worth of hose lines from the landscape.
In a letter to the community penned by the Forest Service, the department gave thanks to residents in the area who aided and supported the efforts of the firefighters.
