The Kern County Fire Department will work through the night to fully contain a fire that sparked up east of Bakersfield Thursday. According to KCFD, they responded to the area of Clear Creek Rd and Hart Flat Rd., east of Bakersfield and found a vegetation fire that was approximately three acres in size and threatening multiple structures. Firefighters are calling the blaze the "Flat Fire". Around 3 p.m. Thursday, officials reported crews had stopped forward progress and the fire was 35 acres with 5% containment. Fire crews were able to save approximately 10 structures. Around 7 p.m. Thursday crews said the fire was approximately 40 acres and was 20% contained. Officials said firefighters will work through the night to extinguish hot spots and increase containment.
