The number of new daily COVID-19 cases climbed to a new high Monday, with the state reporting more than 3,000 positive tests for the second time in a week.
With California reporting a total of 115,032 infections since the start of the pandemic, the state also recorded 3,128 new cases, according to data compiled by this news organization. That marks a seven-day average of 2,608 new cases, the highest seven-day average of new cases in California since Friday, when the state reported 3,073 new cases and a seven-day average of 2,475 new cases.
The state also recorded 47 new deaths Monday, for a total of 4,219 since the start of the pandemic. The seven-day average of new fatalities was 64 on Monday, somewhat lower than the highest seven-day average of 104 fatalities, which the state recorded on May 21.
The number of new cases continues to grow in California, even as the state begins reopening after weeks of stay-at-home orders.
