A fire at a downtown Watsonville landmark sent one person to a trauma center and left dozens of people who lived there without a home. The fire happened at the Wall Street Inn at 30 Beach street just after one Wednesday afternoon. “We were kind of like we see the smoke like something’s going on so it was a little chaotic but mostly everyone worked fast and was trying to communicate to get everyone out and we just heard the fire alarm keep going off,” said Karen Partida who works as a server in a first-floor restaurant. Watsonville fire called out a 2-alarm fire in large part because of the size of the building and the potential for the fire to spread. Ten engines responded from North Monterey county fire, Aptos and Pajaro. Investigators say the fire started in a 4th-floor apartment unit.
