The Mountain View City Council will address the city's lack of female firefighters during its Tuesday meeting. In December, councilmembers received the 2019-2020 Santa Clara County Grand Jury's final report, titled 'Why aren't there more female firefighters in Santa Clara County?" The report reviews fire service in the county and specifically evaluates recruitment efforts for entry-level female firefighters and their living and working conditions. The report provides recommendations to improve the treatment of female firefighters in the Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose fire departments and the Santa Clara County Central Fire District. Recommendations for the Mountain View department include creating separate dorms and restrooms for female firefighters.
