PHOTOS: Fire crews put out a structure fire that broke out on the Midway in Chico Monday morning, according to the Chico Fire Department.
The fire was first reported at 4:40 a.m. and when crews arrived the building was fully involved with flames coming from all four sides.
“This building was built in 1945 and our biggest challenge was that most of the flooring inside of it was soaked with hydrocarbons - your oils, your gases, your greases - so getting this fire out was a difficult challenge,” said Chico Fire Department’s Battalion Chief John Kelso.
Kelso said crews made contact with three teenage transients who were in a building adjacent to the structure that burned.
The three teens told firefighters they were not sure if anyone was in the building at the time of the fire, Kelso said.
