VIDEO/PHOTOS: After eight years of serving the City of Red Bluff, Fire Chief Ray Barber is hanging up his fire hat and is officially retiring. Colleagues, firefighters, and the community expressed gratitude and appreciation for Barber's leadership and service to the City of Red Bluff. And among the many is a family who survived the Carr Fire four years ago and cannot thank Barber enough.
"I've been here for eight years. What a great department, what a great community. Thank you to the city and thank you to the community. Everybody," Barber said. During the Carr Fire in 2018, Barber went viral on social media after Barber and his crew saved a family's home in Old Shasta and left a note at the family's home. Susan and Jeff Grant were evacuated from their home near Old Shasta on Benson Drive due to the Carr Fire.
