Ramona Community Planning Group members awarded Cal Fire and San Diego County Fire Chief Tony Mecham a plaque Dec. 1 to express their appreciation for his services to Ramona.
Planning Group member Dan Summers detailed Mecham’s contributions to the community as he handed the award to Mecham at the group’s meeting in Ramona Community Library.
Until recently, Ramona’s fire and emergency medical services were overseen by the Ramona Municipal Water District, Summers said. But as the budget for providing those services grew larger each year, the water district took action to transfer oversight of fire and EMS to San Diego County Fire, he said.
Since then, Mecham has been instrumental in increasing staffing at Ramona Fire Stations 81 and 82 from two staff per engine to three staff per engine.
