Several Santa Maria storage units and their contents were damaged in a fire on Wednesday. At approximately 9:15 a.m., members of the Santa Maria Fire Department from five of the six stations were dispatched to the 2800 block of Skyway Drive for a reported structure fire at a storage facility, according to Battalion Chief Evan Scott. Crews arrived to find the fire affecting multiple self-storage units. Firefighters removed items including a mattress, cardboard boxes and plastic containers from the mini storage units as they worked to extinguish the fire. Santa Maria police officers and an American Medical Response ambulance crew also were dispatched to the incident. No one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire destroyed the contents of two units and damaged several others.
