Vice President Kamala Harris will be visiting San Bernardino Friday afternoon for a joint visit with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to discuss the growing efforts to combat wildfires across the state. The two are set to announce the allotment of $1.3 billion in disaster relief funding for the U.S. Forest Service, including $600 million for California. This funding from the recently-passed federal infrastructure bill will help states impacted by wildfire and hurricane disasters in 2021 and will go toward hazardous materials cleanup efforts, reforestation, watershed restoration, and infrastructure repairs. The Biden administration said Tuesday it will significantly expand efforts to stave off those catastrophic wildfires that have torched areas of the West by more aggressively thinning forests around "hot spots" where nature and neighborhoods collide.
