VIDEO: A large debris fire sent a plume of black smoke over the Fresno sky Sunday afternoon. The dark tower could be seen for miles. Crews responded to the fire near Golden State and Maple Avenues in southeast Fresno. CAL FIRE says a large pile of trash and plastic caught fire in an open field near a storage facility. Action News crews caught some of the flames twisted into fire tornadoes. Ladder trucks doused the whirling flames to allow other resources to get closer. Fire officials say a nearby hydrant system was down, leading to additional resources to be called in. Crews are expected to be on scene for several hours cleaning up.
