California is sending a five-person team of experts to Florida to help after Hurricane Ian left a path of destruction across the state. The team will help those displaced by the storm. “California stands with the people of Florida,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a release on Thursday. “Our state is all too familiar with the impact of natural disasters and we stand ready to provide any needed aid and support to the communities impacted by this horrific storm.” The deployment comes after the Florida Division of Emergency Management requested aid. The team of mass care experts will help facilitate shelters as well as emergency operations center staff in Tallahassee. This team will be joining other California firefighters and search and rescue specialists already on the ground in Florida.
