The Oxnard Fire Department’s (OFD) Annual report to the Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee, February 28, continues with Fire Chief Alex Hamilton discussing how they plan to solve Fire Death issues within the City. The Oxnard Fire Department had a busy 2022 with over 20,000 service calls and over 30,000 unit responses. “We need to do something in terms of early warning,” Hamilton said. “That garage fire from Christmas morning did not have smoke detectors, and that is an important issue we need to work through.” He said they have meetings scheduled with the District Attorney’s Office about prosecution issues surrounding Fires and Arson Fires. “We need to do much better in our education and outreach effort and looking at model programs around the Country maybe we use,” he said. “We’re actively pursuing grant opportunities, engaging the community, and collaborating.”
