VIDEO: A Sierra County wildfire has burned more than a thousand acres as flames continue to spread and force evacuations.
The Bear Fire started Monday afternoon on the east side of the Tahoe National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
As of 2:47 a.m. Tuesday, the fire has burned 1,391 acres, according to Cal Fire. That is up from 1,183 acres reported Monday evening.
KCRA 3 reporter Melanie Wingo can see flames from the ground. Smoke can be seen from AlertCalifornia cameras.
There is no known containment around the fire. Containment does not measure how much of the fire is extinguished; it instead measures how much of a perimeter crews have established around the burn area.
The forest service said the fire is threatening 286 structures, and 536 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders.
