As of Wednesday morning, the Canyonlands Fire is 90% contained and remains at approximately 50 acres. The fire is entirely on Bureau of Land Management lands and no structures are currently threatened. The fire is burning about nine miles northwest of Canon City. It was started by lightning on July 9. Residents in the area can expect to see smoke periodically rising from the fire area, especially during the afternoon hours. Firefighters will map out the fire perimeter Wednesday to provide a more accurate determination of the actual fire acreage. There are no road closures at this time. Temporary flight restrictions over the fire area will be lifted on Wednesday.
