Minor injuries have been reported after the Regional Transportation District (RTD) A Line train collided with a semi tractor-trailer in Aurora Monday morning.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Smith Road and Sable Boulevard. The intersection was shut down for hours due to the accident. Normal service between Denver Union Station and Denver Airport Station has resumed. An RTD alert asked riders to allow extra travel time for the next hour while they work to restore the normal schedule.
Aurora Fire Rescue also responded to the scene of the accident. Two trucks, a heavy rescue, one engine, one rescue and two battalions were sent to the scene.
Fire Rescue said all 58 passengers were off the train as of 11:30 a.m. and that debris clean up would take another hour. There's no indication the road will reopen at that time, as the traffic investigation may take longer.
