North Range Behavioral Health named Greeley fire chief Dale Lyman and interim battalion chief Jeff Stranahan as “Community Champions of Behavioral Health” Monday for their advocacy efforts. The fire department has partnered with North Range since March 2018 to create a three-person team called “Squad 1.” The department has been deploying Squad 1 as a countermeasure to a preponderance of 911 calls that involve mental health concerns rather than more traditional emergency response needs like fire or pure medical issues. The three-person squad is made up of a paramedic, employed by the fire department, a crisis counselor, employed by North Range, and a case manager, employed by North Colorado Health Alliance.
