A rubbish truck caught fire on Redstone Street Monday. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The Fire Department received a call around 2:20 p.m. that a CWPM truck carrying a load of recyclable cardboard boxes had caught fire. The driver, realizing that his load was burning, pulled into the Crowley Auto Body parking lot, where the load was dumped, according to Deputy Fire Chief John Ziogas.
Ziogas said the fire took “no time at all” to put out. No injuries were reported.
Ziogas said firefighters wouldn’t normally have needed the truck to dump the burning load, but the boxes were so tightly packed that dumping was necessary to locate the fire.
He said it was likely that someone had discarded some sort of “hot container” that caused the boxes to ignite.
