A retired U.S. Army tugboat was damaged by an electrical fire Monday evening at Norwalk Cove Marina. The 60-foot tugboat-turned-yacht “The General” suffered damage to the engine compartment below deck. Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay said a couple lives on board the vessel and that the woman smelled smoke. “She opened the hatch and saw flames and called us,” Shay said, adding the call came in at 5:41 p.m. There was heavy damage to the boat’s electrical equipment in the engine room, including the electrical panel, wires and related conduits. No one was injured, Shay said. Several fire vehicles, as well as the department’s fire boat, Marine Unit 238, were on scene. The tugboat has been a fixture in the marina for years, tied up not far from the Sunset Grille.
