A man suffered burns to his hand Monday evening after his van engine caught fire on Route 9 south in Haddam.
Haddam Volunteer Fire Co. crews were called to Exit 8, Beaver Meadow Road, on the report of a vehicle fire, according to officials. The driver, who reportedly was returning from an antique auction with a loaded van and trailer, heard a popping sound and pulled over, realizing there was a fire in the vehicle’s engine compartment, fire officials said. The operator removed himself from the burning vehicle and tried to pull items from the van, causing minor burns to his hand, authorities said. He engine caught fire on Route 9 south in Haddam.
