A year after a tornado hit the town, leaving a wake of devastation, town officials are looking to revamp its emergency management department, including hiring a full-time director, so it’s ready to respond to any situation.
“The emergency management program is in shambles,” Deputy Emergency Management Director Scott Fur said at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting.
Fur, who has an extensive background in emergency response and planning, has been volunteering in the post since the tornado but he said the town needs a paid full-time director who can keep the cycle of preparedness updated and operating. This includes reviewing various emergency plans in town, such as at the different assisted living communities and the schools, as well as running trainings and drills.
