A family is displaced after a fire damaged its third-floor apartment on Main Street.
Firefighters extinguished within minutes the blaze that is suspected to have started in the kitchen of the apartment, said James Gagliardo, spokesman for the fire department. He said he did not know how many people are in the family, but the group denied help from Red Cross.
The fire started around 9:50 a.m. Friday at 399 Main St., a three-story building that is also home to Polla’s Supermarket.
The supermarket was not affected, Gagliardo said. There appeared to be multiple apartments upstairs, but only the one with the fire was damaged, he said. “It seems as though that’s the only one affected now,” Gagliardo said.
The blaze shut down the northbound side of Main Street from the intersection by the Citgo gas station to the fire for under an hour.
