A tractor trailer caught fire early Saturday morning after a collision on Interstate 95 involving a wrong-way driver, officials said.
The crash happened just before 4 a.m. on I-95 north near Exit 27A in Bridgeport.
“A wrong-way driver went head on with a tractor trailer,” Bridgeport officials said around 4 a.m.
A state police dispatcher said the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was seriously injured, while the passenger suffered minor injuries. The tractor trailer driver was uninjured.
Deputy Fire Chief Lance Edwards said the tractor trailer “ignited” after the head-on collision. He said the truck’s diesel saddle tanks also ruptured. The driver of the passenger vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters, Edwards said. The driver was then taken to a local hospital.
