The two-alarm barn fire at Clatter Valley Farm left not only destruction, but heartbreak in its wake.
Firefighters responded to the fire on Town Farm Road around 9 a.m. Friday. By the time they got there, flames had engulfed the two-story, 2,688-square-foot barn. There were animals inside and most of them got out safely. Lifelong New Milford resident Bethanie Conkey, however, lost five roosters that day. They were trapped in kennels when the fire broke out.
“I am sad for my boys,” she said. “I miss their little faces.”
Conkey said Clatter Valley Farm — a family-owned, community-supported farm operated by Jeremy and Willow Schulz — has been “a huge part” of her life for nearly four years. “I care for all of the animals at the farm daily,” she said.
